About Joel Merrick

Joel is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor with over 10 years of experience in the construction industry. He specialises in quantum analysis and supports expert witnesses in complex construction disputes, having previously gained experience in commercial management for contractors and subcontractors on MEP, civils and groundworks, and HV power projects valued between £150,000 and £15 million.

Joel currently works closely with lead quantum experts on high-value disputes, providing detailed quantum analysis and support across litigation, arbitration, adjudication and mediation proceedings. His recent work has involved analysing large volumes of project cost information, assisting in the preparation of expert reports, and supporting the testifying expert throughout formal dispute resolution processes.

Having managed projects from pre-construction through to final account earlier in his career, Joel has a strong understanding of cost reporting and commercial management throughout the construction lifecycle. This practical project experience underpins his analytical approach when assessing quantum issues in disputes. On live projects, Joel has been responsible for contract administration, procurement, subcontract management, change management, preparation of estimates and valuations, and quantities take-off. He has experience with various forms of contract, including JCT forms, NEC3 Option A, and bespoke agreements.
